Motorola Partners with Infineon for Multimode 3G Transceiver

Motorola US placed a sizeable order for modified Smarti UE device 3G transceiver chips from Infineon. The Infineon chip is a multimode single-chip 3G RF transceiver that can handle HSDPA, HSUPA and EDGE. Infineon will modify the Motorola version by incorporating Motorola IPs.

The partnership is expected to provide an advanced 3G RF solution as its slim design drastically reduces the size and footprint of next generation 3G devices.

Worldwide mobile handset users are expected to switch over to 3G-technology as the technology matures and becomes a mainstream requirement for both GSM and W-CDMA telephone users.

Infineon’s strategic partnership with Motorola follows its alliance with mobile phone manufacturers Nokia, Samsung and Apple’s iPhone.
