Motorola WiMax Technology Gets Support from Sprint and Notebook Manufacturers
Sprint’s demonstration of the capabilities of its Xohm WiMax technology this week on boat Summer of George as it sailed the Chicago River is hailed by press people and industry experts as impressive and consistent. Press reports about the capabilities of Motorola’s WiMax wireless technology have DSL and cable Internet providers worried.
Sprint’s demonstration of its Xohm WiMax capabilities was on the heels of Motorola’s demonstration of WiMax aboard a train and in a fast-moving car.
Chicago is one of six places in the U.S. where Motorola will put up network infrastructure to support Xohm as with Sprint gets ready to begin beta testing its Xohm WiMax service in Chicago, Baltimore and Washington before the end of the 2007.
Key to the initiative success is bringing aboard device manufacturers willing to embed WiMax in their products.
Laptop computer manufactures Acer, Asus, Lenovo, Panasonic and Toshiba have expressed intent to embed WiMax in their 2008 Intel Centrino-based laptops and ultra mobile PCs.
