With Motorola’s recent acquisition of Good Technology, it is getting ready to challenge Blackberry’s mobile e-mail service. Motorola’s acquisition of Good Technology is touted as a very important step towards its goal of regaining market leadership in handheld business after reporting a loss for the past year.
With Good Technology’s specialization in mobile e-mail systems, the acquisition positions Motorola as a serious rival and alternative to Canada-based Research in Motion (RIM), the company behind Blackberry’s success. The first Motorola phones to incorporate Good Technology’s push e-mail technology is Motorola’s Q series of smart phones.
Aside from this latest innovation, Motorola is also betting on feature-driven handsets such as on-demand video service and the roll-out of wi-fi hotspots on steroids as the company describes their WiMax mobile broadband technology.
